no more NSFW art?

Posted by tuffghostart - 2 weeks ago

i've been thinking about removing my NSFW stuff from here and just posting it on my 18+ twitter from here on out... it feels a little weird for me to have the SFW and NSFW stuff next to each other on here.

what do you guys think? should i get rid of it? make a new account and move it over there? am i overthinking it?

I don't have trouble with the artists I follow having both SFW and NSFW art in one account, if it's something that is not my kink, I'm simply not rating it cause it's not for me, but for others. But I also totally understand if you want to separate those two sides of your art in different accounts, just don't forget to provide us with links) and make both accounts on NG of course

you definitely post a lot more sfw than nsfw but i think it really falls onto you. its much easier to filter out nsfw on this site than twitter if you don’t want to see it. i’m able to scroll on this site for hours at work cause i filter out anything about an E. I think you’re thinking of the site a lot like other sites where you usually can’t do that sort of thing. Personally don’t think having both on the same account is a cause for concern.

thank you! I really appreciate the input. I think you're right, I was thinking about this site and its users like it was any other site. I guess my main concern was that people on here who aren't interested in NSFW would be jarred when I do post the occasional nsfw thing.

but you're right, I think most people on here know how to set their filters so they don't see anything they don't want to. thanks again <3

While I agree with @Remi-le-Oduen & @TariqtheToaster in essence ("we can act like sensible adults"), the most functional variation, if you 'want' to make a split, seems to be a dedicated 'NSFW-account' on NG. I've seen several artists do it and "[Artist Name]NSFW" is a surefire way to avoid having users blow the whistle on your new account because they thought you stole from your favorite artist, tuffghostart.

A word of warning about Twitter/"X", though: In the past, while merely 'skimming' the NG-artist news, I have regularly seen posts about Twitter accounts getting removed, blocked, etc. I have not read Twitter's ToS, but the pattern I have been seeing is: "User does NSFW art". So that approach might not work out for you, long term.

thank you for your advice and the warning! <3

in your personal preference, do you prefer when artists split works between two accounts on here, keep everything in one place, or do you not really care because you use the filters?

Personally, I prefer one person to have one account, because, like I wrote above: I can act like a sensible adult. But "somehow" not everybody seems to be able to manage that... In 2015 there was a fantastically dark _variant_ cover of 'Batgirl' #41. The cover shows Joker with his arm around Batgirl and tracing a bloody smile across her face and holding a gun. The reaction of "certain people" was to send (and I quote) "threats of violence and harassment". In my eyes it would have been enough for those people to _vote_with_their_wallets_, by just not purchasing the variant. Some people out there have real issues.

I cannot tell you if splitting your artistic output over 2 accounts would get rid of those people entirely, but I have noticed several "[Artist Name]NSFW" profiles over the last few months, without actively looking for them. If they really help is something you'd have to ask the individual artists.

I 'do' use the age filters on NG, but only in situations when I want to filter for something specific. Typically, I want to see 'everything' an artist has to offer, but sometimes (especially when looking into an artist I'm not familiar with) I filter out "E"-rated art when I want to see pieces that are darker or focus on the more mature aspects of human relations.
At other times I filter out "A"- & "M"-rated submissions when an artist does a lot of cheesecake but I'm looking for something of theirs to feature on my profile to share with others how good they are at what they do; rather than how deep a cleavage they can draw.

NSFW-artists work just as hard as everybody else but when I want to "feature" an artist's work I usually go for pieces most users will be able to see, which means I have a tendency to pick "E"- & "T"-rated art. Of course, if what I like best about an artist's work is the kind of "M"-rated art that makes freeze the blood in my veins then there's no point in desperately looking for their "E"-rated stuff.

Sorry if I worded this too generic. I would give examples but I'm not in the habit of plastering artists' comment sections or review spaces with a bunch of links to the works of 'other' artists on NG. ;)
If you'd like just send me a PM and I'll pick out a few examples. 'Alternatively' you can check out my favorites (and playlists) with different filter settings.

I hope this helps.
